The first time I applied to work at KIRO radio, I was living in Westminster, Maryland , hoping to find a great news job in Seattle to justify my desire to leave my news director position at WTTR and join my fiance.The second time I applied to work at KIRO, I had moved to Seattle, and it was my first choice of a place of employment. I got an interview with Vic Bremer, the infamous News Director who offered me an editor position. I turned it down because I didn't want to give up being on the air.
Two years later, I applied again. I admired my street-reporter colleagues from KIRO, envious of their station's commitment to news and the care they took with their stories.
The fourth time I applied to KIRO Newsradio, was a few years later. I had just lost my job at KMPS and was looking to start anew.
I didn't apply again until I left KING 1090 in 1993. I interviewed with Tom Clendening and we talked about possible talk show positions.
My next contact with KIRO was in 2002. My life in Cleveland was coming to a close, and I wanted to return to Seattle. I had a couple of conversations with Kris Olinger. But, KOMO responded with a job offer more quickly, and I chose to take the KOMO position. It was a good decision at the time, and I spent 7 years and 2 months helping build KOMO Newsradio into a market leader.
Now, Finally, more than 25 years after I first applied to KIRO, I have been hired! I begin my new position hosting the Saturday version of "Seattle's Morning News" tomorrow from 6-9 a.m.
