It's been a while since I posted a painting by my favorite Impressionist, Mary Cassatt. She painted this one in 1900, and I just love the wise look on the child's face, as if she is upset the artist has interrupted the moment, and would rather study her mother's needlework than pose for a painting.Mary Cassatt was a genius at setting a mood.
I feel more peaceful just looking at her work.

generally this isn't my kind of painting, BUT...this is really amazing.
I agree..the child's look is so wise, but in the same way...the mother's look seems so simple and childlike.
What a wonderfully captured 'freaky-friday' role reversal.
